Kool-Aid oh how this brings back memories….Do you remember Kool-Aid packets, pouring them into a pitcher adding what seemed liked mounds and mounds of sugar + some water? Yes, those are the good ol’ days. Nowadays my kids know what kool-aid mix is, but mostly because we’ve used it for craft projects, never had we tried Kool-Aid milkshakes, until now.
But sometimes it’s fun to try a new drink and since we love smoothies, I figured let’s give a Kool-Aid milkshake a try. Glad we did, because it tasted pretty darn good, I must admit. This recipe is so cool because you aren’t using very much kool-aid at all, but you get a whole lot of milkshake.
I originally saw this recipe over at the Kraft site but changed it up a bit. I added less Kool-Aid than what they recommend, and I think our results came out better. We used the strawberry flavor and it was amazing. The color is gorgeous too once it’s made. But any kool-aid flavor will work, depending on your choice.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1Tsp. Kool-Aid liquid drink mix (any flavor)
1 1/2 Cups of Milk
3 Cups of Vanilla Yogurt
Just pop all 3 ingredients in your blender and mix up until fully blended and you’ve got yourself a nostalgic drink… well the Kool-Aid part at least. The milkshake part is what sets this recipe apart. It’s not bitter like regular ol’ kool-aid can taste. Since you’re adding only a very small pack of kool-aid with vanilla yogurt, this milkshake is much tastier. Not too sweet either, which was a nice surprise.
This recipe makes a whole lot of milkshake. Close to 4 cups. I froze what we didn’t drink and save it for later that night. Saving it any longer it may not taste as great. Best to split this recipe up and share with the family or kids.
The key to making this milkshake is adding vanilla flavored yogurt. It’s a must! I tried making this with plain yogurt and the flavor was VERY tart, ooops. So as long as you use vanilla flavored yogurt the recipe will be perfect.
Have fun whipping up your milkshake and let me know what you think. Don’t be shy to try a little kool-aid mixed with yogurt, it’s a fun treat, this I promise!
Thanks for stopping by today.

What a fun idea!

I’m glad you like the idea Susen, you really aren’t using a whole lot of kool-aid mix, it’s more yogurt. You could try different flavors too depending on what the kids like. It’s a fun one!
This is such a neat idea! My kids would love these, especially my daughter since it is pink! I guess I could do any color/flavor, tho.

I have a question….everyone is talking about using the Kool-Aid Packets when the recipe calls for the liquid drink mix…..if I would like to use the packets, how much of the packet do I use? Any input is helpful….thank you
Hi Heidi, I used one packet of Kool-Aid mix - they are approx 0.16oz packets. The original recipe called for more, but using 1 packet seemed plenty once you add the rest of the ingredients. I hope that helps
PInning this….great idea!!
