Ghost Handprint and Footprint Painting

Halloween may not be here just YET, but I’m still getting in the spirt… “early”. Either way I’m excited to share a super cute Ghost Handprint and Footprint Painting my son and I created together. This is such a fun time of year, I just love creating and sharing crafts with you all month long.

I’ve seen so many handprint and footprint crafts around the blogosphere but one jumped out at me from Michelle at Crafty Morning. Her painting was my first inspiration for our footprint painting today. I decided to add a mama ghost to our painting aka my feet. This was a great craft for my son and I to make together + it’s really simple to do. It’s a craft anyone can create using some adorable feet + paint + a little creativity and imagination.

Here’s what you need:

Black construction paper

White paint

A child who doesn’t mind getting their hands + feet a little messy + and if you want to add a mama or daddy ghost: an adult who doesn’t mind getting involved in the painting fun.

Googly Eyes

Black marker or Sharpie

Let’s Get Started:

The steps for making these footprint and handprints are the exact same. You are either painting a hand or foot, depending on which you want to create.

1. First, I painted the bottom of my sons hand completely covering it with white paint. Next, place the black construction paper under your child’s hand and press firmly. Careful they don’t move, just press down firmly so you can get the whole handprint.

2. Once you remove their hand, repeat with the other hand.

3. After both handprints are on your construction paper, let dry + add googly eyes to each ghost.

4. Lastly I added a silly and ghoulish mouth to our ghost faces by using a black sharpie or black marker.

If you want to create a footprint, you just follow the same steps above using your child’s foot.

Next I decided to create a ghost footprint, well a ghost made out of a footprint at least. This was fun because I decided to get a little dirty too! Yes, I painted my foot with white paint and took the plunge. It was fantastic, by the way!

First I painted my foot using white paint, covering it completely. Then placed it firmly onto the black construction paper, leaving enough room for my son to do the same thing with his foot.

I used a few baby wipes to clean up my foot, and a paper towel helped to dry my foot. Then I had my son do the same exact thing. I painted his foot with white paint and had him stand onto the black paper, pressing firmly. The hardest part is getting the little ones to stay still long enough, to get the footprint on the paper correctly. We tried this step 2x because my son is a wiggle worm.

Creating some ghoulish ghost footprint and handprints are so simple to make. I hope you are ready to get a little messy and have some fun with your family creating your Halloween artwork.
