Halloween Cake Pops

Fall is such a festive time of year. Don’t you just love all the decorations, the sweet foods, the change of seasons, and festive crafts to go along with it? I love this time of year. Halloween being one of my favorite parts of the season. Today I’m sharing an easy recipe to make your own Halloween Cake Pops.

I was originally inspired to make these wonderful and oh-so spooktacular treats from Sophia on TLC’s Cake Boss show. She definitely learned from the best, so I knew we had to try making our very own cake pops. I’m excited to share a Halloween spin on her delightful and sweet recipe.

Now, I’m no professional baker by any means, but this recipe sure was A LOT of fun to put together. My kids loved seeing us create these wonderful Halloween Cake Pops. I hope you get the chance to make some cake pops after reading the recipe below.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Box Yellow Cake Mix + Ingredients needed to mix

Frosting - We used Betty Crocker Vanilla, Rich and Creamy

Lollipop sticks - Wilton makes a set for under $2

Baking Chocolate - We used white chocolate chips

Halloween Sprinkles

Steps:

1. Mix your cake according to the directions on the box and bake using a 7 or 9-inch cake pan.

2. Once cooked, let the cake completely cool.

3. Cut your cake into squares, and crumble into mixing bowl, add frosting (don’t be shy with the frosting). We used at least 1/2 of the container of frosting. You want a sticky consistency, the more frosting the better. *Optional, you can add food coloring if you want a certain color cake pop*

4. Mix the crumbled cake mix and frosting together until you get a paste-like texture.

5. Using a small ice cream scooper, begin scooping the cake out of the bowl, placing each ball onto a cookie sheet or tray.

6. Freeze your cake scoops for at least 30 to 40 minutes. If you take your cake balls out of the freezer and they are still not somewhat hard, freeze for up to 1 hour.

7. While you are waiting for your cake pops to firm in the freezer, go ahead and begin melting your white chocolate using a double boiler. Keep stirring chocolate until smooth, leave on lowest heat.

8. Remove cake pops from the freezer and roll each into a ball.

7. Gather your cake pop sticks/lollipop sticks, first - dip your pop stick into the melted chocolate about 1/2 inch. This should help the pop stick attach to the cake ball. Now insert the stick into each cake ball.

8. Begin dipping your frozen cake balls into the your melted chocolate. Coat each cake pop completely, you can use a spoon or spatula to smooth out the outer layer.

9. Add sprinkles and decorate

You can refrigerate your cake pops if you won’t be eating them right away. If you plan to eat them at a party, leave at room temperature for a softer cake pop.

At first, I was hesitant making my very first batch of cake pops, and if you’ve never made any, rest assured this recipe will set your worries at ease. These cake pops are DELICIOUS! We made over a dozen of these Halloween cake pops but before the end of the weekend, they were gone, yes gone.. like a ghost. Well, we actually had some out of town guests who just might’ve helped eat all most of the cake pops.

The hardest part of this recipe is probably just eating one, but I would recommend a nice glass o’ milk with yours. These cake pops are such a tasty treat perfect for a holiday party or just a great way to enjoy a sweet treat with your family. Either way these pops are sure to be a big hit this Halloween.

Have you ever made cake pops before? What did you think after making your first batch?
