Pudding + Paint
Do your kids love painting, letting their inner artists out, and finding their inner picasso? My kiddos love to paint and I’ve heard of edible paint before, but the problem was, I never really knew what you’d use to create such a thing. We’ve always used Crayola paints which work great and easy to clean up. I was excited when I was talking with a friend recently who told me how to make Edible Finger Paint.
What’s in it, you ask???
I’m shocked how simple this recipe really is, I think you will be too.
Instant vanilla pudding + ingredients listed on the box + food coloring
Yep, 2 easy ingredients to make edible finger paint. Who knew life could be so fun! I must’ve missed the memo, because we would’ve made this a LONG time ago.
First mix your instant pudding according to the instructions on the box.
Next, pour pudding mixture into muffin tins about 1/2 full.
Now, just add food coloring to each pudding mixture to create the colors of the rainbow. We used popsicle sticks to stir the food coloring.
This is a great activity to let the kids explore and be creative.
Honestly, it’s so easy + tasty! At first my daughter really didn’t want to try it. I asked her to paint a summer picture using the Edible Finger Paint. She decided to create a beautiful beach scene. She actually had a hard time not licking her paint brush over and over again. She fell in love with the finger paint creation.
My son decided to create his own version of a beach scene + he added his name. I was very proud he tried his best. My son also LOVED eating the paint as we created our masterpieces.
So the next time you’re at the store ready to buy finger paint, stop and think first if you already have instant vanilla pudding mix + food coloring. If you do, save yourself the trip and instead, make very happy kiddos at home when you whip this easy pudding creation together.
When the kids are done using their edible finger paint you can store in the refrigerator in air tight containers. Great activity for endless times of fun. The hardest part is having any left-over, without eating it all up. My kids loved this recipe.
Your kids will have so much fun creating and playing with their edible paint. I know we sure did!

I tried this when my daughter was about 18 months old. She quickly learned how delicious it was and started eating it. She ate all of it since I had left her in her high chair while I was feeding my other daughter! I want to try it again when she’s a bit older, because I know she would still eat it at 24 months!

Heather, your kids looked like they had a ton of fun painting with the pudding! We tried yogurt mixed with food coloring and my daughter didn’t want a thing to do with it, go figure! Maybe I’ll try again in a few more months to see if she’s more receptive!

Thanks Susen, the kids did really have a blast creating and eating their pudding paint. My daughter kept licking her brushes, lol. I’ve never tried yogurt paint but that sounds fun too. The pudding gives a nice flavor, so any color tasted good too! Let me know how you like it when you make some.

My son would love this, esp since he loves to paint however, the regular paint gets everywhere and it’s annoying. With this edible paint it’s not only delicious, it’s easier cleanup!

Edible paints sound fun!! I could see my kids just eating it instead of painting with it though. Does it get real sticky?
