Hello Krafts and Kiddos readers!! I’m super excited that Heather asked me to share this fun and easy project with you today! My name is Mel from Melly Moments and I can’t wait to tell you about these simple, customizable Housewarming Gift Jars that you can create with $30 or less!
Between the months of May and August this year, 5 friends of mine moved. I knew this could easily break the bank and I had to stay on budget. Making a housewarming gift jar is not only fun, but quite inexpensive too!
When one of your friends or family members moves into their new digs, you want to wish them luck and help celebrate in a special way! I don’t know about you, but I really enjoy giving gifts with a personal touch.
I KNOW, I KNOW…with how busy life can be, it’s sometimes quicker and easier to just give a gift card. But what fun is that?!
With housewarming presents, I typically find it hard to choose one that is unique and memorable. I often find myself thinking, “I have no idea what colors are in their house…what if this doesn’t go with their stuff.” OR “They probably already have one of these.” Chances are, you won’t know the homeowner’s personal style, which makes it hard to buy gifts for the space they will spend so much time in! If you’re anything like me, you do your very best to avoid the following :
1. Bringing a bottle of wine to the party just like everyone else
2. Giving a novelty item, sometimes referred to as a knick knack
3. Spending TOO much money on that one-of-a-kind gift

Do I like wine? Why, of course. But, I don’t always know if they like red or white, what kind, and quite frankly, it’s usually the one gift that all other guests wind up bringing! And novelty items, they are nice and all, but they often lack purpose and functionality. These are gifts that typically wind up being re-gifted or sit on a shelf collecting dust for years . When it comes down to it, you want to give something that is useful WITH a special touch added! You can have the best of both worlds by making one of these Housewarming Gift Jars! It takes hardly any time at all.
They can be customized for a certain season or any holiday. When your coworker moves into their new apartment around Christmas or Fourth of July, it’s easy to add seasonal items for that memorable touch. Whether you’ve known this person for years or just recently met them, all you have to do is add items that every person can utilize! You don’t need to know their favorite store or decor style. Just think of all the things that come in handy at your house and….VOILA! All you have to do is fill the jar!
To get started, I make sure to find the perfect size jar or basket for all of my goodies. There are all kinds of mason jars, vases, and apothecary jars that would work perfectly, as they come in many different shapes and sizes. I found my jars at Hobby Lobby and they ran roughly $8 (not including the coupon). If your container isn’t large enough to fit all of the bigger items, the mini sized items are perfect to mix in. You have so many options!! One of my all time favorites is the silicone pot holders that also act as trivets or jar openers. You never can go wrong with one of these!! Find it HERE! Once I’ve determined my container size, the fun really begins! I try to find items that I would actually use in my own home.

5. Mini Sticky Note Pad - (Target $1 Section)
AND….let’s talk about how cute these are? I’m sure we’ve all seen different variations of wine labels and tags. When you’re at a party, trust me, these come in handy. These are my favorite kind I’ve come across.
For the finishing touches, I find some festive fabric (I chose picnic theme for summer) and cut out a circle slightly larger than the diameter of the jar opening. I use a rubber band to keep it in place and a piece of twine or raffia to make it look pretty! Finally, I use a decorative label/tag instead of a card!
So, there you have it…a cute and creative Housewarming gift that won’t be left to sit on a shelf!
