It’s Beach Week

July is officially here, and the 4th of July has come and gone… I hope you had a very patriotic and festive holiday and enjoyed some amazing fireworks with friends and family. We had a very relaxing holiday, which was just perfect for me. I know this month will get busy, before I know it, so being with my kiddos and hubby was perfect this year.

To keep the kids busy this summer I decided to have a theme each week, that includes a craft, activity, or food…and what better way to kick off the month of July than enjoying a Beach theme all week.

I’m super duper excited to share some great beach themed ideas with you this week.

We happen to live near the beach, but I know not everyone is so close - so I have some really fun ideas that don’t include actually going to a beach. Instead let’s enjoy some crafts or activities that remind us of the beach.

Seashell Letters

Here’s what you’ll need to make a beautiful Seashell Letter.

Wooden Letter (I used 11″ long size)

Assorted Seashells

Hot Glue Gun

If you haven’t been to the beach recently to collect a bunch of shells, no need to worry… You can buy a bag from your local craft store or online. Convenient right? That’s why I love this craft so much, it can be done using old seashells you’ve collected along the way or you can buy a bag that work just as great!

I had the kids pick which seashells they wanted to use and let them pass their favorites to me. Dab a small amount of hot glue onto the back of each shell and press firmly into place. Continue all the way up until you cover the letter completely.

Working together with the kids to create these colorful and beachy seashell letters is so much fun. It’s a great way to bring the beach home without actually going there. My kids loved sifting through seashells and picking their favorites and placing them in just the “right” spot on the letter.

Watermelon Smoothie

It’s Smoothie Saturday

I hope you had an amazing 4th of July yesterday. One filled with lots of family and friends, relaxing and taking in all the patriotic fun for the day. We enjoyed a festive bbq, I made homemade potato salad + my hubby did the grilling, topped by watching fireworks with the kiddos.

With the holidays over, we are back to our groove here, for another edition of Smoothie Saturday. Each Saturday I feature a new smoothie recipe you can enjoy by yourself or share with the kids - either way this is a great + refreshing drink.

It’s July and summer’s in full swing so here’s what’s on the menu:

Watermelon Smoothie

Ingredients

2 Cups - Watermelon

1 Cup - Apple Juice

6 Strawberries, sliced

1/3 cup - Plain Greek Yogurt

5 - Ice Cubes

Makes 16 oz.

Add all your ingredients into your blender, mix well, and you’ve got yourself a refreshing summer smoothie aka a Watermelon Smoothie.

This one also happens to be my daughters favorite…Once I whip this together, she’s the first to the kitchen to enjoy a cup. This is the perfect smoothie for a hot summer day. We make this one a lot, it’s a great snack for the kids too!

Festive Ice Cream Cone Wrappers

Happy 4th of July

I hope you’re out drinking some fresh lemonade watching a parade and enjoying all the fun festivities and food that go along with the 4th of July.

And, since today is the 4th of July, I wanted to share a super cute idea I saw over at Chickabug blog. Printable ice cream cone wrappers. Now, aren’t these the cutest wrappers! These are the perfect addition to your 4th of July party or just a festive way to decorate your ice cream cones.

These adorable ice cream cone wrappers for the 4th of July - also happen to be a free printable. You can find them over at Chickabug blog.

Here’s what they look like before you add them to your sugar ice cream cones.

Once you print your wrappers on white paper - all you need is sugar cones, clear tape, and your favorite ice cream. Just cut out your printable and place them over your sugar cone using clear tape + add ice cream = yummy!

We used a cake and sprinkles flavored ice cream from Target to fill our cones. Super delicious, I promise. My kids had a really hard time just eating one cone, very tasty! I think these adorable ice cream cone wrappers are such a great addition to your party. Enjoy!

Patriotic Flower Pots

Red, White, and Blue Flower Pots

I’m ready to get festive and enjoy all the Red, White, and Blue festivities, crafts, and foods that go along with the 4th of July. Are you ready to decorate the house with some festive decor? If so, then I know you’ll enjoy making these Patriotic Flower Pots.

I’m honestly loving all the patriotic foods and crafts I’ve seen this week. I was inspired to make these flower pots after seeing all the red, white, and blue ideas out there.

These pots took about 1 hour to make.

Here’s what you need and what to do

We had some flower pots sitting around the house in our craft room just waiting to be painted… It was like they knew I was in much need of some patriotic flower pots around the house. These pots were perfect! If you don’t have any flower pots sitting around, you can find flower pots at your local craft store.

First we painted the whole pot white and set aside to dry. Luckily the paint dries pretty quickly.

Next, we took our painters tape and applied circles around the pot, pressing firmly into place. This way no paint seeps below the tape.

Now you can paint the town red… or your pot at least. Paint the white areas in between the tape. This will be your red stripes. With the tape still on, we painted the top of the pot with blue. Now you can set aside to dry. Once dry, remove the tape and you add your favorite flower or plant.

These pots are the perfect addition to your 4th of July decor. We have ours set out on our table as centerpieces, and they look ah-mazing. Have fun making your patriotic pots.

Flag Painting on Canvas

American Flag Fun

Can you believe it’s July already? Well, I’m gearing up for a festive week and today was only the beginning. My kids and I had a great time making some really fun and festive crafts.

The kids each made a Flag Painting on Canvas. I had bought packs of 8×10 canvas a while back, hoping to use them for another project - but when the kids asked if we could paint today, these came in very handy.

These flag paintings took under 10 minutes to make. (Add a few minutes for drying)

Here’s what you’ll need

First I painted my sons hand blue + then pressed it firmly in place on the canvas.

Next I gave the kids a sponge brush filled with red paint and let the art begin… and oh boy did they enjoy seeing this American Flag come together, it was a big hit!

For the next flag, my daughter decided to dip her fingers into a light blue paint to make the stars. I let her creativity shine, she thought she added 50 stars, but who’s counting right?! She then painted the red stripes onto the canvas and here’s her masterpiece.

These flag paintings were simple to make using products I had at home. The paint dries pretty quickly so the kids can showcase their festive artwork. We have ours hanging up in our dining room, it’s the perfect decoration for this 4th of July.
